  • CHS Consulting Group has an immediate opening in our Oakland office for an entry- to mid-level Transit Planner to work alongside a group of experienced, talented, and energetic professionals in an exciting, collaborative, and supportive work environment.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Analyze transportation data including turning movement counts, roadway counts, parking occupancy, transit ridership data, Census data, travel survey data, etc.

    • Conduct multimodal transportation analyses including level of service analysis, vehicle miles travel analysis, trip and parking generation, spatial analysis, etc.

    • Prepare study reports and presentations.

    • Research best practices and emerging topics related to transportation.

    • Performs fieldwork such as parking and loading survey.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, or other related major.

    • Coursework in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, traffic operation, transportation and land use policy, geography, GIS, statistics, or other related courses.

    • Strong analytical skills and experience in Microsoft Excel and GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS).

    • Exposure to relevant software including Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, and Cube is preferred (experience with all software is not required).

    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with a track record in managing preparation of circulation sections of General Plans, Specific Plans, and CEQA/NEPA documents; and traffic studies for various types of Caltrans projects. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff.

    Preferred candidates should have professional registration either as a PE in the State of California or AICP, or have the ability to obtain registration within six months of hire. California TE, PTP, or PTOE certifications are also preferred. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 0 – 2 years of professional experience. Candidates must have hands-on experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation and be able to perform traffic engineering design. The candidate should have excellent problem-solving skills, strong communications skills verbally and in writing, and proven attention to detail.

    Registration as California PE, California TE, or PTOE certification is preferred. The candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional transportation engineering design experience. Candidates should have experience in performing transportation engineering analyses and design, including traffic engineering, traffic operations and simulation, signal design and systems, and ITS design. Candidates must be proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation and have hands-on experience with traffic operations software (HCS, Synchro, CORSIM, and VISSIM).

    Registration as a PE in the State of California or the ability to obtain registration within six months of hire is preferred. Additional registration (either a California TE or certification as a PTOE) is preferred. Candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience, with a track record in managing traffic engineering design projects, including traffic signal design and systems, traffic operations and simulation, and ITS design; as well as the ability to mentor junior staff.

    Preferred candidates must be registered as a PE in the State of California or have the ability to obtain registration within six months of hire. Additional registration (either a California TE or certification as a PTOE) is preferred. Candidates should be proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation, have proven project management skills, and have strong written and oral communication skills.
