The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s Central Subway is a new
1.7 mile extension of the Third Street Light Rail Project. It includes a short
at-grade section from King Street and the I-80 structure to Harrison and Bryant
Streets, then tunnels through the City’s Moscone Center Area and Union Square to
Chinatown. The Central Subway will serve regional destinations including Chinatown,
Union Square, Moscone Convention Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the South
of Market neighborhood, and AT&T Park, as well as connect to BART and Caltrain stations.
The project is currently in final design.
CHS Consulting Group is responsible for civil design elements such as pavement restoration,
drainage, maintenance of traffic, and traffic signal plans for the Union Square/Market Street
Station. In addition, CHS is reviewing SFMTA's traffic control and staging plans for the two
other stations: Moscone Station and Chinatown Station.
