The City of Sacramento has been
interested in creating an intermodal transit transfer center that would
accommodate Amtrak, a future high speed rail service, Sacramento RT buses, 2
LRT lines (DNA and South Line), and long-haul buses.
The project site is located at the existing Amtrak train station
on the northern edge of Sacramento downtown. In the immediate vicinity,
there is a major development project being proposed and coordination with
this project’s circulation and access pattern is a critical element.
The project began with 50 different alternatives and a preferred alternative was officially selected.
CHS’s responsibility include assessment of existing opportunities and constraints,
development of concept plans and assessment of the initial set of alternatives,
and the development of two traffic simulation models, using VISSIM and SYNCHRO
to test the impacts on the two proposed LRT line (South
Line and DNA Line) operation and local traffic for both existing and future scenarios.
